DURGA PUJA: Day 5 - Ditch the ordinary

DURGA PUJA: Day 5 - Ditch the ordinary

Every day of the nine day period during Durga Puja calls for celebration. Day 5 is devoted to Devi Maa Skandamata. Using a lion as a vehicle, Maa holds her son “Skand” in her lap while displaying 3 eyes and 4 hands; two hands hold lotuses while the other two hands respectively display defending and granting gestures. It is believed that by the mercy of Maa Skandamata, even the idiot becomes an ocean of knowledge.
Day 5 of the Durga Puja festivities call for a little change in the saree you choose to wear to break the monotony. That is where our stylist’s recommendation makes you stand out while still wearing the six-yard. For Day 5 she has chosen a banarasi tussar silk saree also commonly called Ghicha silk (the undyed form of tussar silk) or kosa silk. It is produced from larvae of several species of silkworms belonging to the moth genus. Our stylist’s pick is this cream kalamkari printed hand woven saree with a tint of green color. A subtle though attractive hue melded with contemporary weaving design, known as kalamkari print. The contrast of cream with an antique zari border is captivating, wrapping the saree into trendy yet classic attire. The beautiful print of leaves, birds, flowers and other elements of nature in varied sizes is majestically charming. The zari weaving over the border is an arduous and commendable task; the ethnic fusion culminates the desire of the youth to ditch the ordinary and sets the tone just right for the pre-puja days. And a tussar banarasi silk is a must for an Indian woman’s wardrobe as it is one of the coolest fabrics, the most breathable one.
